BUILDING a bridge was the challenge set out for youngsters from primary schools when the Rotary Club of Dawlish hosted its primary schools technical challenge.

Teams from Cockwood, Kenn, Westcliff School, Gatehouse School, Kenton and Exminster were asked to build the bridge of no more than 25cm high out of spaghetti, drinking straws and glue. The structures were judged on design and then tested for their weight carrying ability.

Bridges built by Exminster and Kenn pupils both achieved a weight bearing of 7.5kgs with Kenn Primary School declared the winners.

Organisers Colin Timms and Steve Marsh said it was very interesting to see the different approaches to design and how the different groups of pupils worked together.
