FINAL plans are being put in place for the second Dawlish Walking Festival.

There will be more than 40 walking activities around the town and countryside during the festival which takes place between April 21 and May 1.

Organiser Naomi Wright, Sustrans project officer, said: ‘For the first time, we have succeeded in getting sponsorship for the Dawlish Walking Festival.

‘We are hoping that this is the beginning of continued support for walking activities in Dawlish.

‘It is such a brilliant place to be.’

There will be something for all abilities and interests, long rambles, short poetry walks, bird watching, local history and storytelling performances as well as healthy stretches along the lanes.

There will also be a digital quiz trail around the town.

The event was made possible with the support of volunteers, Dawlish Town Council and sponsors local solicitors Scott Richards.

Director Jamie Dyson said: ‘We are proud to support the Dawlish Walking Festival and hosting a South West Coast Pathwalk from Dawlish Warren to Teignmouth on April 29.

‘The Scott Richards walk will be a celebration of the beautiful and wildlife rich coastline we have around Dawlish with refreshments provided by the office to keep people going throughout the day.’

This festival is one event of a partnership project called Destination Dawlish, in which the town is developing new ways to bring people in and encourage them to stay longer.’

Mayor of Dawlish Cllr Angela Fenne said: ‘We have a beautiful and gentle town, amazing beaches, coast and wooded green rolling hills.

‘This festival is just the sort of event we welcome as it celebrates the area, is fun and keeps you healthy too.’
