New crossings for Dawlish Warren

By Ellen Grindley in Local People

TWO new pedestrian crossings are to be installed in Dawlish Warren following concerns by residents.

Fears were raised over pedestrians using Warren Road following the removal of refuge crossings as part of work to construct the Exe Estuary cycle path.

County councillor John Clatworthy arranged a site visit with highways portfolio holder Cllr Stuart Hughes and a highways officer to assess the situation.

Following an inspection of the area, the county council has agreed to introduce two new zebra crossings.

Cllr Clatworthy said: ‘I am delighted to say the two new zebra crossings will be installed in early May before the main holiday season.

‘During the holiday season, there will be monitoring of the cycle path and its interaction with the new layout at the Beach Road junction to see it any improvements to the layout and crossing are necessary.

‘I am sure local residents will be delighted with this solution as it will provide safe crossing areas for residents and tourists.’
