Taking on the beauty spot litter louts

LITTER louts have been blasted for throwing rubbish out of car windows at a beauty spot near Dawlish.

Plastic bottles, coffee cups, fast food packaging and cans have been found discarded at Luscombe Hill.

Furious Ralph Rayner, director of the Ashcombe Estate, has called for a crackdown on littering and fly-tipping and for fines to be imposed on the culprits.

He claims the issues stem from the Dawlish area. He said: ‘For some reason certain people travelling to and from Dawlish seem to think that it is acceptable to throw litter out of their cars.

‘The litter increases throughout the year and is particularly bad over Friday and Saturday nights.

‘The area of moorland these people are ruining is called Little Haldon and is a Site of Special Scientific Interest.

‘Despite signs and campaigns as well as the latest risk of a £250 fine, it seems some people are too irresponsible to be able to take their litter home with them.

‘It is time to educate, shame and fine people who are busy wrecking our beautiful country with their feckless and unpleasant behaviour.

‘There is no excuse for littering.’

Last month, estate staff spent an hour collecting a substantial amount of litter along a stretch of road which is less than half a mile long.
