Going behind the scenes at store

By Ellen Grindley in Education

YOUNGSTERS from Starcross pre-school were taken on a tour of the Dawlish branch of Sainsbury’s.

The children had been learning about money so staff at the store offered them the chance to visit the supermarket and see what goes on behind the scenes.

Staff gave a tour of the store and warehouse, showing how food gets onto the shelves.

A masterclass on the checkouts then followed and after scanning the shopping, the children went to the store’s bakery where they were shown how doughnuts are made.

The children then had their own opportunity to make their own doughnuts which they took home with them.

A store spokesman said: ‘The children were an absolute joy to have in store along with all the staff and helpers that came too.

‘At Sainsburys we welcome any groups who would like to visit to know more about the company as a whole or just about our store.

‘We can talk about food, recycling or about our own environmentally friendly store.

‘We also have a team available to come out and give talks to any groups that might be interested in this opportunity.’

Anyone is welcome to apply at prl.dawlish@sainsburys.co.uk.
