John Southall writes: This week’s photograph from the Bernard Chapman Collection dates back a little earlier than the most recent ones – 1910.
The main subject is the town band and the location is our bandstand, or at least an early one.
We can’t see much of it but what we can see is very rustic-looking, as though it was built out of large timbers.
I can’t help wondering what happened to it, and when it changed – and indeed, have there been any more versions?
In Bernard’s notes there is a list of some of the best-known musicians of the later period 1920 to 1950.
